FedEx Surcharges

FedEx charges surcharges for certain services, such as extra options or large parcels. QLS has collected all surcharges on this page for you so that this is not a surprise. The prices for additional services, such as insured shipping or signature required, can be found on the pricing page of your account in my.QLS.

Do you have questions about the surcharges? Then contact your account manager. The surcharges on this page may be adjusted during the year when FedEx makes changes to the surcharges.

Additional Services(1)(2)

Description(1) Cost

Dangerous Goods
FedEx services for dangerous goods allow the transportation of regulated hazardous substances and materials, including door-to-door delivery and customs clearance. The rate depends on the type of dangerous goods and the service used:

For Air Transport of Dangerous Goods (IATA):
•  Accessible Dangerous Goods (ADG)
The contents of the package must be accessible during transport for safety reasons.
•  Inaccessible Dangerous Goods (IDG)
The contents of the package do not need to be accessible during transport, allowing the package to be shipped with other freight.

For Road Transport of Dangerous Goods (ADR):
•  Fully Regulated Dangerous Goods (FDG)(4)
Must be prepared, packed, marked, labeled, and documented in full compliance with ADR regulations.
•  Limited Quantities of Dangerous Goods (LDG)(4)
The package contains small amounts of dangerous goods, packed, marked, and labeled in accordance with ADR regulations.
•  Loose Lithium Batteries (EBB)(4)
This includes two types of goods:
1. Loose lithium metal batteries (UN 3090 - ADR SP 188).
2. Loose lithium-ion batteries (UN 3480 - ADR SP 188).

For Dangerous Goods by Air (IATA) or by Road (ADR):
• Excepted Quantities of Dangerous Goods (REQ)(4)
The package contains very small amounts of dangerous goods, packed, marked, and labeled in accordance with IATA or ADR regulations.
• Dry Ice (DI)
When transported by air (IATA), dry ice is classified as a dangerous good that requires special handling and is subject to simplified regulations. This means it can only be shipped from locations that offer fully regulated dangerous goods services.
When transported by road (ADR), dry ice is not considered a dangerous good and is therefore not subject to these DG restrictions in countries.

• Lithium Batteries Section II (ELB)
Four products fall under this section:
1. Lithium-ion batteries packed with equipment
(UN 3481 – Packing Instruction 966).
2. Lithium-ion batteries contained in equipment
(UN 3481 – Packing Instruction 967).
3. Lithium metal batteries packed with equipment
(UN 3091 – Packing Instruction 969).
4. Lithium metal batteries contained in equipment
(UN 3091 – Packing Instruction 970).

If a shipment contains both dry ice or Lithium Batteries Section II and another dangerous good, only the applicable surcharge for (Accessible or Inaccessible) Dangerous Goods will apply.
• Biological Substance, Category B (RDS)(4)
The package contains potentially infectious human or animal specimens.
• Genetically Modified Organisms and Microorganisms (GMM)(4)
The package contains organisms with artificially altered genetic material.
Notes:
(a) Refer to the FedEx Terms and Conditions of Carriage (fedex.com/nl/services/terms) and the Dangerous Goods section at fedex.com/nl.
(b) For FedEx International Connect Plus(6), only Inaccessible Dangerous Goods (IDG) and Lithium Batteries Section II (ELB) are applicable. For the latest information and updates on dangerous goods capabilities with FedEx International Connect Plus, visit fedex.com.

FedEx® Delivery Signature Options
The following delivery signature options(9) can be selected when booking your shipment:
1. No Signature Required: FedEx will attempt to obtain a signature from someone at the delivery address. If no one is available to sign, FedEx will leave the package in a secure location without a signature.
2. Indirect Signature Required: FedEx will obtain a signature from someone at the delivery address, a neighbor, or a building manager. The recipient can also authorize delivery without anyone present using any FedEx-approved method.
3. Direct Signature Required: FedEx will obtain a signature from someone at the delivery address. If no one is available to sign, FedEx will attempt delivery again.
4. Adult Signature Required: FedEx will obtain a signature at the delivery address from any adult, provided a valid ID can be shown. If no one is available to sign, FedEx will attempt redelivery. The definition of adulthood depends on the legal age of majority in the destination country/territory and not the legal age for purchasing specific products (such as alcohol).

Surcharges(1)(2)

Description(1) Cost(3)
Additional Handling Surcharge
Package Services
A surcharge applies per package or per item that meets any of the following criteria:

Dimensions
• Measures more than 121 cm along its longest side
• Measures more than 76 cm along its second-longest side; or
• Has a combined length and girth (length + 2 x width + 2 x height) exceeding 266 cm

Packaging
• Is not fully encased in an outer shipping box or container
• Is encased in an outer shipping container or packaging that is not made of corrugated cardboard, including but not limited to metal, wood, canvas, leather, hard plastic, soft plastic, or expanded polystyrene foam (e.g., Styrofoam)
• Is encased in an outer shipping container or packaging covered with shrink wrap or stretch wrap
• Is round or cylindrical, including (but not limited to) shipping tubes, cans, buckets, barrels, tires, drums, or pails
• Is bound with metal, plastic, or fabric bands, or has wheels (e.g., a bicycle), casters, handles, or straps, including items where the outer surface is loosely wrapped or where contents protrude outside the package surface
• May become entangled with or cause damage to other packages or the FedEx sortation system

Weight
• Has an actual weight of more than 31 kg.
During transport, the shape and dimensions of the package may change, which can affect the dimensional weight and whether the package qualifies for a surcharge. If the shape or dimensions change during transit, FedEx may adjust the shipping charges at any time. This surcharge applies per item, even if multiple items are bundled within one shipment. If a non-standard package qualifies for two or all three of the additional handling surcharges (dimension, weight, or packaging), only the highest applicable surcharge will be charged.
FedEx reserves the right to apply additional handling surcharges for packages that require special treatment or for which FedEx must apply extra packaging during transport.

Freight Services
A surcharge applies if a shipment includes a freight handling unit that exceeds 157 cm(10) along its longest side. This surcharge applies per freight handling unit, even if multiple units are bundled in a single shipment. FedEx reserves the right to charge additional surcharges for freight shipments that require special handling during transit.

Non-Stackable Shipment Surcharge(11)
A surcharge applies to each freight handling unit or freight shipment that is non-stackable. Non-stackable means the freight handling unit cannot be safely stacked vertically. Examples include, but are not limited to, freight units that: 1) do not have a flat and stable top or bottom, 2) may be damaged if another item is loaded on top, or 3) have flat and stable surfaces but are too narrow to safely support other freight units (e.g., 1–2 barrels or drums). A surcharge also applies to any freight unit marked by the shipper as non-stackable.
This surcharge applies per freight handling unit, even if multiple units are bundled in one shipment.
Please refer to the packaging guidelines on fedex.com for more information on preparing and palletizing freight.

Address Correction
If the recipient’s address on an Air Waybill, Air Freight Waybill, Bill of Lading, or shipping label is incomplete or incorrect, FedEx may attempt to find the correct address for delivery. A surcharge applies for this service. If FedEx is unable to complete the delivery, it is not liable for failing to meet its delivery commitment.
For FedEx International Broker Select, the address correction surcharge also applies if the agent’s address is incomplete or incorrect on the Air Freight Waybill, Bill of Lading, or other shipping documentation. If FedEx cannot determine the correct address or reach the agent, it may attempt to contact the shipper for clarification or instructions to return the shipment. If FedEx is unable to complete the delivery under these circumstances, it is not liable for failing to meet its delivery commitment.

Declared Value
The shipper may choose to pay a surcharge to declare a value for carriage on the Air Waybill or Freight Bill that exceeds the standard liability limits. FedEx does not provide all-risk cargo insurance.
The Declared Value for Carriage is subject to a maximum limit and may vary by location. The Declared Value for Carriage must not exceed:
• FedEx® Envelope or Pak: US $100 per shipment (or equivalent in local currency);
• Other services, excluding freight services: US $50,000 per shipment (or equivalent in local currency);
• FedEx International Priority Freight, FedEx International Economy Freight, FedEx Regional Economy Freight(7), FedEx Priority Express Freight, and FedEx Priority Freight: US $100,000 per shipment to most destinations (or equivalent in local currency);
• For certain Unique Items: US $1,000 per shipment (see FedEx Terms and Conditions of Carriage for full details);
• Actual value of the contents of the shipment;
• Declared value for customs: The sale price or replacement value of the shipment contents as required for clearance purposes.
The declared value rates are incremental and depend on the amount specified by the customer.
A fee of €0.92 per US $100 is charged for each additional US $100 (or fraction thereof) of liability that FedEx accepts beyond the standard liability limits.
Delivery Outside Standard Area
For shipments that need to be picked up from or delivered to less accessible or remote locations, an Out-of-Pick-up-Area (OPA) or Out-of-Delivery-Area (ODA) surcharge applies.
See the list of postal codes or regions where this surcharge applies.
