bpost Surcharges

bpost charges surcharges for certain services, such as extra options or large parcels. QLS has collected all surcharges on this page for you so that this is not a surprise. The prices for additional services, such as insured shipping or signature required, can be found on the pricing page of your account in my.QLS.

Do you have questions about the surcharges? Then contact your account manager. The surcharges on this page may be adjusted during the year when bpost makes changes to the surcharges.

Description Cost
Drop-off of parcels in bpost’s retail network
For dropping off national and international parcels at bpost’s retail network (post office, post point, or parcel locker), a surcharge will apply. This surcharge does not apply to return shipments.
€0.71
Missing Pre-advice File
For the drop-off of national parcels (excluding bpack XL) for which the pre-advice file is missing at the time of sorting, or for which essential delivery information is missing (e.g. delivery address), a surcharge will apply.
€0.50
Parcel with Illegible Shipping Label
If the parcel does not bear a barcode label or if the barcode provided by the customer is not legible in accordance with the Operational Guides, bpost reserves the right to apply a barcode itself. The costs for this additional handling will be charged to the customer.
€1.00
Manual Parcel Handling
bpost reserves the right to manually handle parcels if deemed necessary. A surcharge will be applied for national parcels (excluding bpack XL) that cannot be (semi-)automatically sorted and therefore require manual processing.

Criteria for Manual Processing
  • Weight: Parcel weighs more than 20 kg (in the case of a flat rate for parcels between 0–30 kg).
  • Dimensions: One side longer than 100 cm, or the smallest surface larger than 70 cm x 60 cm.
  • Shape: Any packaging where the label cannot be processed horizontally (e.g. cylinders), or any packaging with a shape that could cause damage (e.g. bulging packaging).
  • Contents: Loose contents inside the packaging, or contents that could cause damage.

The above list of criteria is not exhaustive. bpost reserves the right to process parcels manually if it deems this necessary.
€2.50
Oversized/Overweight Parcel
For national parcels (excluding bpack XL) that exceed any of the following criteria, a surcharge will be applied:
  • Oversized: Longest side > 1.5 m or total size > 3 meters, measured using the following formula: 1 x length + 2 x width + 2 x height;
  • Overweight: More than 30 kg.
>30 to 40 kg

Parcel Density
For national Parcels (excluding Parcels where length + width + height < 70 cm and bpack XL) with a density in kg/m³ below a threshold of 120 kg/m³, a surcharge will be applied.

Concrete Surcharge Example
  • A parcel with dimensions of 100 cm x 100 cm x 100 cm has a volume of 1 m³. If this parcel weighs 100 kg, then the density surcharge for this parcel is calculated as follows:
    (120 kg - 100 kg) = 20 * €0.00340 = €0.06800.
The surcharge is calculated for each missing kilogram below the threshold value and amounts to €0.00340 per missing kg/m³ per parcel.
Drop-off of Parcels During Year-End Peak
For the delivery of national Parcels (excluding bpack XL), a surcharge applies during the year-end peak period. The peak period is determined by bpost and starts at 6:00 AM on the day after the fourth Thursday of November (“Black Friday”) and lasts until 6:00 AM on December 25 (Christmas Day).
For 2025, this period runs from November 27, 2025 (06:00) to December 25, 2025 (06:00).
€1.00
Parcel “Return to Sender”
For all national parcels (excluding bpack XL), a surcharge applies for returning parcels that could not be delivered to the recipient. This surcharge does not apply to parcels returned using a bpack return service.

The return-to-sender surcharge applies to:

  • parcels that cannot be delivered due to incorrect address details;

  • parcels that are refused by the recipient;

  • parcels that are not collected by the recipient.
