PostNL Surcharges 2026

PostNL Parcel Size S
For each PostNL parcel size, an additional surcharge is applied on top of the base rate. Parcel Size S has a maximum weight of 5 kg and a maximum volume of 10 liters. The maximum dimensions are 30 × 20 × 20 cm.

PostNL Parcel Size M
For each PostNL parcel size, an additional surcharge is applied on top of the base rate. Parcel Size M has a maximum weight of 10 kg and a maximum volume of 24 liters. The maximum dimensions are 40 × 30 × 30 cm.

PostNL Parcel Size L
For each PostNL parcel size, an additional surcharge is applied on top of the base rate. Parcel Size L has a maximum weight of 15 kg and a maximum volume of 50 liters. The maximum dimensions are 60 × 40 × 40 cm.

PostNL Parcel Size XL
For each PostNL parcel size, an additional surcharge is applied on top of the base rate. Parcel Size XL has a maximum weight of 20 kg and a maximum volume of 100 liters. The maximum dimensions are 100 × 60 × 60 cm.

PostNL Parcel Size XXL
For each PostNL parcel size, an additional surcharge is applied on top of the base rate. Parcel Size XXL has a maximum weight of 31.5 kg and a maximum volume of 200 liters. The maximum dimensions are 120 × 60 × 60 cm.

PostNL Parcel Size XXXL
For each PostNL parcel size, an additional surcharge is applied on top of the base rate. Parcel Size XXXL applies to parcels with a weight exceeding 31.5 kg and/or a volume of more than 200 liters and/or dimensions larger than 120 × 60 × 60 cm.

Non-Standard Handling
PostNL applies this surcharge if a parcel meets one or more of the criteria listed in the table “Non-Standard Handling Criteria” (see Changes to PostNL Surcharge Criteria 2025).

Non-Standard Handling – Heavy Parcels
Parcels with a weight between 23 kg and 31.5 kg (see Changes to PostNL Surcharge Criteria 2025).

Energy Surcharge
The energy surcharge applies to all PostNL shipping methods within the Netherlands and Europe, with the exception of Mailbox and PostNL non-EU products. The surcharge is calculated based on PostNL’s energy index, which depends on diesel fuel prices and average energy rates. The rate may vary on a monthly basis.

Exceeding Maximum Parcel Dimensions
Per parcel if the size exceeds 175 × 78 × 58 cm or if the weight exceeds 31.5 kg (see Changes to PostNL Surcharge Criteria 2025). In this case, the surcharges for Non-Standard Handling (Heavy Parcels) and Large Parcels are not applied.

Dropping Off Mailbox Parcels at a PostNL Location
A surcharge applies when dropping off a mailbox parcel at a PostNL location other than QLS.

Peak Surcharge
Applies to outbound shipments and returns during the peak period. The exact dates are published annually before 1 June on www.postnl.nl/tarieven. In addition, PostNL is entitled to pass on any peak surcharges charged by foreign carrier partners engaged by PostNL to the customer.

Return to Sender After Refusal or Undeliverable
Rates apply in accordance with the outbound shipment rate (pricing per parcel).

Return Shipment Following a Recall Request
A surcharge is applied to parcels that must be returned to the sender as a result of a recall request submitted via MijnPostNL.

Recall Request via the PostNL Service Team
A surcharge is applied for handling a recall request by the PostNL service team.

PostNL Mailbox Parcel
For each PostNL parcel format, an additional surcharge is applied on top of the base rate. A mailbox parcel has a maximum weight of 2 kg and maximum dimensions of 38 × 26.5 × 3.2 cm. If PostNL determines that the parcel exceeds these limits, a surcharge will be applied. Please note: this surcharge may also apply to bulging parcels or parcels that are poorly sealed.
